I was one of the few UK DJs to be on the Motown freebies list, and worked in the California Ballroom in Dunstable on Friday and Saturday nights as well as their nightclub The Devil’s  Den/Didoz where I found my love of soul music.

As one of the stalwarts of the Cali in the early to mid 70s I helped the place gain the nickname Soul City and worked with many of the great acts like James Brown, The Temptations, Jr Walker & The  All Stars and many more. I even met Bob Marley at The Cali in 1972 when he was touring with Johnny Nash as a guest performing with The Wailers too on a handful of gigs.

Giving up the DJ scene in 1978,  claiming I was becoming dangerous from too many late nights!

In 2002, the website dedicated to The California Ballroom came on-line which brought me and my trusty 45s back to the music business in Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire. .

I first presented my Soul Stew radio show on Black Cat Radio in 2007 for some of the stations early FM broadcasts, then moving to many other stations across the UK & Cyprus.

Black Cat Radio holds a very special place in my heart and I was delighted to be asked to return in 2022, bringing you the Soul Stew Party with the best in R&B/Soul/Dance/Disco from the 60s to the 90s plus my regular features Motown Chartbusters, The Twofers & Reggae Reggae Stew.
