I believe for anyone following and enjoying music it is a personal journey and we all take a different route. To label a song that you hear as rubbish really means it’s not for you. Someone wrote it someone recorded it and someone bought it, therefore it cannot be rubbish.

Back in 1968, I like many others started at a very early age, I was 15 and a Dj at the local youth club natural progression led me to buy my own gear and by 17 I and my mate Roy had our own Mr Soul Sound Disco. As a non-driver in those days we used taxi’s to ferry us around. At 18 with driving licence in hand I was invited to join Stateside Roadshow and travelling around all the American air bases in East Anglia. I quickly had to learn a whole new soul library because the soul music the guys on the bases were listening to from the USA was not the same as soul music we listened to in the UK. The UK discos played Northern Soul, USA it was Jaz funk, Mr James Brown, Hamilton Bohannon, Fatback, Sir Joe Quarterman, Bobby Womack, Luther Ingrams, Lynn Collins, the JB’s Fred Wesley, Billy Preston, Maceo and the Mac’s, I could go on and am doing so.

I worked during the day as an apprentice electrician and in the evenings back on stage in the clubs until 2am. Turn over the years I love and welcome new music of today because it’s the road ahead, for me to listen only to the music of past is to shut the curtains and lock the doors. I appreciate vinyl because in my youth we had no other choice but CD’s and flac digital downloads which then opens up all of the musics dynamics are the definitive.

My favourite album is Tears for Fears “Song from the Big Chair” no wait, it’s The Thompson Twins” Into the gap” hold on it might be The Art of Noise” In no sense nonsense”, Or was it Prince” Graffiti Bridge” how do you choose? well as a music lover I can’t and don’t choose because it’s “my” personal choice at a moment in time.

I am Mark Box, I have been married to the most wonderful lady for 50 years. I have two daughters, two fanatic son-in-laws and four delightful grandchildren who are amazing. I retired from my own electrical business in 2017 and I am loving life.
