Rory Mac
12th August 1998 at Great Yarmouth Seafront watching the radio 1 roadshow!
On the bill was Ultra Nate and B*witched and I knew from that day on, if Chris Moyles could whip up a musical storm, so could I!
I made it my goal to bring music to as many people as I could, I purchased a cheap set of decks and a mixer and some speakers (that were older than I was) and tried my best to create musical alchemy in the genre of dance music, but it kind of stalled as I forgot that I wasn’t a superstar DJ after all…
Fast forward to 2018 – a chance meeting with a mate who just so happened to be involved with a local radio station called “Black Cat 107” and welcomed me in to sit with him on one of his lunchtime shows, I sat and watched and it was then the bug was once again caught!
I came up with an idea for a show called “Iconic 80’s” and as the name would suggest was all things 1980’s, so I made it my goal to be the best I could make it. I sat in with other presenters on the team and picked up tips, tricks and confidence, then I recorded my first show and offered it to the management and soon after I got the thumbs up and I took to the airwaves on Saturday afternoons for 2 hours. Listener feedback was positive and I continued to smash out the 80’s music until there was a slot on a Friday night and the management thought that dance music would be a perfect show to fill the slot. Having dance music as the genre that was my life for all those years since the roadshow I thought that I could fill the airwaves of St. Neots with Dance music… thus “Dance Heaven” was born.
I now broadcast from 8 to 10 pm every Friday, kicking off your weekend in the correct fashion!
When I’m not injecting the airwaves with the hottest dance tracks, in my day job I’m a complex fibre optic telecommunications engineer for the biggest supplier in the UK. Before that I was part of the Emergency services (big red trucks).
In my spare time, I’m a big Rugby and Football fan (Northampton and Cambridge and Newcastle United), I paddleboard regularly and go 10-pin bowling when I can.
I also love the outdoors, taking my dog for walks and enjoying the beautiful countryside our local area has to offer.
So that’s about it from me, but remember, if you lived it up weekends in a warehouse, a field in the middle of nowhere, or a school hall, come with me and relive your youth in Dance Heaven!
The info you need to know is 8 to 10 pm Friday nights, jump on 102.5fm in the St. Neots area, shout at your smart speaker to “play Black Cat Radio” or use the player on this website.
